One of VCA’s strong commitments to the learning fraternity is to provide leadership exposure opportunities for the equipping and development of leaders. One such vehicle through which this mandate has been actualised is through the Leadership Union of Student Academia (LUSA).
At Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, one of the first opportunities we had to reach out to the student community was through hosting a Leadership Summit in conjunction with the NMMU SRC as well as the Students’ Christian Organisation. The Summit, specifically aimed at the executive leaders of various societies on campus, brought the world-renowned leadership acumen of Charlie Masala of Myles Munroe International.
Through his charismatic yet relatable approach, Charlie was able to impart invaluable leadership pearls to the students, which they all found applicable and relevant in their leadership capacities.
As part of the strategic mandate we have at NMMU, the postgraduate leadership seminars have been one of our longest running platforms. These have been implemented under the banner of the Graduate Fellowship.
Aimed at the postgraduate and young working class bracket of society, these sessions have been instrumental in producing a number of notable students that have gone on to become beacons of light and life in their respective academic fields.
